Culinary: To Learn Well, You Must Eat Well
At KIPP NYC College Prep, we've replaced "school lunch" with a chef-led culinary program that serves fresh, scratch-made, and nutritious meals to every student, every day—at no cost.
The Story Behind the Plate
"What if we used our own kitchen to cook real food?" Our culinary program began with a "crazy idea" from Michael Ioli, a veteran KIPP teacher and Dean who saw that students deserved better than processed, heat-and-serve meals. Driven by his heritage and a passion for health, Mike enrolled in culinary school at night while working at CPHS to build the credentials to transform our food program. Today, it is a professional operation led by trained chefs, including CPHS alumni, students, and family members.
What's on the Menu?
100% Free Breakfast & Lunch
Breakfast includes hot options, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, and assorted bagels. Lunch features a main entree with high-quality protein, grains, and vegetables.
The Salad Bar
Students can build their own custom salads at our daily salad bar, featuring seasonal greens and house-made dressings.
Inclusive Options
We offer vegetarian and vegan options daily to ensure every student is fueled and included.

We receive fresh ingredient deliveries daily. No frozen packets—just real food made with love.
From the Lab to the Kitchen: Cultivating Our Campus
Our hallways are doing more than just getting students to class—they are feeding them! Through two distinct, student-led initiatives, we are turning school spaces into thriving ecosystems and redefining what "locally sourced" really means.
🌿 The Evergreen Club
Vertical hydroponic towers managed by our Upper School Plant and Environmental Club provide a steady harvest of basil, cilantro, and kale for our kitchen.
🔬 9th Grade Biology
Students manage a high-tech aeroponic farming unit with one-week grow cycles, bridging academic study and hands-on agricultural experience.
